Visual Perception (VP) Visual perception is the ability to see likenesses and differences in size, shape and color. During the readiness stage of development children often have difficulty distinguishing between similar shapes and letters. Many opportunities need to be provided for these young learners to observe the likenesses and differences of visual patterns in their environment.

Visual Memory (VM) Visual memory is the ability to recall things seen. Spelling, reading and writing improve when learners have the ability to retain and recall visual images of shapes and letters. These activities provide an opportunity for the emergent learner to practice recalling objects from memory, two and three part designs, items in sequence and word forms. Authentic visual memory practice is reinforced without verbal clues.
